Seeking the Best of Two Worlds

ES Principal Letter

Dear Hayah Parents,

Welcome to the 2017-18 school year; we have had an awesome start it is so nice to have your children back in school filling our classrooms with their smiles and hard work.  I can’t believe this is the beginning of my 5th year in this awesome place. I don’t know how but it just keeps getting better every year. It is such an honor to be here with each of you and your lovely children. This year we are happy to welcome back Ms. Marwa and Ms. Yasmine in the elementary office along with Ms. Doha and Ms. Nesrine as the grades 1-3 and

4-5 principal assistants respectively. We are all here to support you and your children on their journey through elementary school.

We will have a busy year as we are moving through the authorization phase of becoming a Primary Years Progamme school (PYP). It is hard work but we know that moving towards a more integrated approach to learning is best for students. PYP is a fantastic way to encourage deeper thinking, inquiry, and grappling with authentic learning experiences. We want students to learn to ask questions about real world problems, not just look for the “right” answer. We will stretch your child’s thinking and encourage academic risk-taking to create life learners who can make an impact on our ever-changing world. There will be multiple parent informational meetings throughout the year to learn more about what it means to be a PYP school and where we are in the authorization process. Our work with PYP will continue to align with the Common Core State Standards and Next Generation Science Standards to ensure vertical articulation and give each child the opportunity to choose either the American Diploma, IB diploma, or a combination of both in high school.

Along with PYP we are pleased to announce that Hayah has become a candidate school for Middle States Association (MSA) accreditation. This certification, alongside our existing accreditation with AdvancED until 2020, will affirm that the school is providing quality educational programs, services, activities, and resources as expected by its stakeholders and endorsed by the education world. During the 2017-18 school year, Hayah will be engaged in a comprehensive self-study and evaluation of our school against the Middle States Standards for Accreditation. Parents, students, and staff were involved last spring in completing surveys to rate the school against indicators of quality outlined by MSA. The data from those surveys will serve as an important source of insight into the strengths and needs of the school. As a final step to full accreditation, Fall 2018 we will host an authorization team from MSA to review our findings, school goals, and action plans. As you can see we are busy making sure that we are providing the best educational experience for your child(ren).

Along with academics we know that it is important that our students feel safe and enjoy coming to school. To create a healthy and safe school environment we believe that all people deserve to be treated with dignity and respect no matter what the situation is. We will help guide children to solve their own problems in a loving way. Our goal is to have students who are independent, responsible, and kind.

I am so excited for another amazing year with each of you.
