ES Principal Letter
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to the 2016-17school year. I am so excited to be starting another year at Hayah and I have no doubt that together we will make this year awesome. Our school will be full of students having fun and learning wonderful new things. In elementary, we strive to have students who are, compassionate, kind, giving, and intellectually challenged. Hayah students will be the next generation of great thinkers when we allow them to think deeply about important topics and to grapple with difficult concepts. A little struggle is an important part of the learning process. This is our students’ educational journey; remember the parable of the boy who thought he was saving the butterfly by removing the struggle and cutting it out of the chrysalis but it was the struggle that gave the butterfly the strength to fly. It is important that our students know they are in a safe learning environment where they are able to take intellectual risks and challenge their thinking. These traits that we desire from our students, aligns with the IB philosophy which is why I am happy to announce that we are in the process of applying for candidacy for the IB Primary Years Programme(PYP). The PYP framework will be new but we will continue to teach the Common Core Standards in English and Math and the Next Generation Science Standards in science.
As we embark on new opportunities it I am happy to be surrounded but such incredible people. This quote “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together” summarizes my philosophy on working with people. I am strong believer in thinking outside of the box, teamwork, and collaboration for our students, our teachers, and myself. This is why this year I will have two principal assistants focusing their time and attention on specific grades. These two amazing people are here to support our teachers and our students:
Ms. Doha ElSamra will be working with grades 1-3
Ms. Nesrine Yehia will be working with grades 4-5
We are also happy to have Ms. Sherine Mahmoud, a full time counselor, returning this year. She is a great addition to the staff and is here to support our students.
We are so excited for you to meet all of the new staff in elementary they bring a range of experience and expertise.
I am grateful for our school community but I would love to increase parent involvement in our school. Please sign up for the PTA and I will be discussing opportunities to get involved in school our activities.
As you know Hayah is the best place for our students; a place where they are challenged to have great character along with a great education. We take this balance very seriously and we, the entire staff, are honored to have the privilege of working with your amazing children everyday. We are thankful that you trust us with your most precious gifts. Together we will provide all the support and opportunities for our students to have an AWESOME school year.
Thank you, Ms. Mandi
